What will HTML5 mean for email marketers?

The latest version of HTML does hold some exciting potential for email. But it’s still largely potential.
For HTML5 to be widely used in email marketing, all email providers would have to understand it. For now, Inbox Marketer tests show that many email clients, such as Gmail and Outlook, do not play HTML5 video. See Table
The HTML5 buzz is largely around video. For years, marketers have been looking for a way to embed video content in email on the assumption that this would increase click throughs. Until now, security issues and the sheer volume of data have made this a non-starter. HTML5 video is built right into supporting mail clients/browsers, largely resolving those concerns.
